Validation of a Korean Version of the CRAFFT for Screening Substance-abusing Adolescents
Kim Yong-Seok

Abstract
The development of screening instruments is very important in the field of substance abuse because they are often used. The purpose of this study is to develop the Korean version of CRAFFT which is a well-known screening instrument widely used to identify adolescents with a risk of substance abuse. A total of 1,051 middle school and high school students residing in a medium-sized city in Gyeonggi province participated in this study. The internal consistency reliability of the Korean version of CRAFFT was .70 which was a little higher than the reliability(=.68) of the English version of CRAFFT. There were statistically significant positive correlation between the Korean version of CRAFFT and theoretically related variables, which indicates it has convergent validity. While the English version of CRAFFT was performed best at a cutoff score of 2 or higher, its Korean version demonstrated an optimal performance at a cutoff score of 1.
